Workshop on International Research Grants for Universities in Africa
Training details
Over the years, there have been so much available funds for universities in Africa which have remained ‘unclaimed’ due to either insufficient information on how the funds are to be accessed, or total lack of knowledge regarding such grants. This international workshop is organised for African universities with the aim of enlightening Vice Chancellors and Directors of Research on how these grants can be accessed and more importantly, to help institutions secure the different ‘floating’ research funds available.
This workshop will focus on the following grants:
1. European Union – African Union investment grant
The grant include $170 billion targeting research in health, green transition, innovation and technology, and capacities for science.
2. Carnegie Benchmarking Project funded by Carnegie Corporation of New York. This fund is available to various fields of research
3. Global Challenge Research Fund – funded by the United Kingdom Research and Innovation agency.
4. Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa – funded by Open Society Foundation
5. MADAR Research Grants – Grants range from £20,000 – £100,000 GBP for periods of 6 to 12 months. Projects must be led by organisations in Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, or the UK, and can include Co-Applicants from anywhere in the world.
6. Mobile Arts for Peace (MAP) – The MAP Large Grant scheme provides funding for researchers of any level and partnering organisations including universities, research organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), cultural organisations, and social enterprises. MAP is interested in applications that integrate youth-led and arts-based participatory monitoring and evaluation approaches.
